The Time Travellers Atlas is a free, independent educational project — an interactive journey through the age of dinosaurs, built around landmark fossil discoveries.
Geological time
The timeline, the period markers and the rock-layer colours throughout the atlas follow the International Chronostratigraphic Chart published by the International Commission on Stratigraphy — the same colour scheme geologists use on maps and charts worldwide. Triassic purple, Jurassic blue, Cretaceous green are not decorative choices. They have been lightened a little so they stay legible against a dark background, but the hues are the standard ones: a chart from a university geology department will agree with this one.
Drifting continents (Deep time)
The moving continents in Deep time were generated with the GPlates Web Service (EarthByte Group, University of Sydney) using its default plate-reconstruction model, then processed into two-million-year steps for this atlas. Fossil images & historical photographs
Photographs of fossils, skeletons and historical figures are used under their individual Creative Commons or public-domain licences. The author, licence and source for each image are credited directly beneath it in the specimen dossiers and guided tours.
